Colorado Eagles Unveil New Uniforms

As part of the Colorado Eagles 15th Anniversary celebration, the team has unveiled a new set of uniforms for the upcoming season. For reference, here’s what they’ve been wearing:

The announcement was made via video release yesterday, which can be seen here as well as on the Eagles website, coloradoeagles.com and on Twitter @ColoradoEagles. Without further ado:

There are a few carryovers from the old look; the Colorado flag patch on the left shoulder remains, the chest logo is the same, and the striping patterns on the arms are similar (while updated to reflect a different color scheme).

The new look signifies a departure from the use of black on both the home and away uniforms, and a strong move in the direction of Colorado pride and Colorado colors. The shorts and helmets are now dark blue, as opposed to black. The nameplate on the dark jersey is now yellow, and the number is yellow with red accents. The neckline uses a red and yellow striping pattern that isn’t quite identical to the Colorado flag, but it at least gives the nod in my opinion. Gone from the neckline is the lacing. The nameplate on the white jersey is blue, and the number is blue with red accents. The neckline replaces the yellow from the dark jersey with blue as well. On both jerseys, the stripes along the waist and forearms use a similar, but not identical, red between yellow pattern.

Look carefully, and you’ll notice the subtle differences; these differences existed on their former uniforms, I hoped they would change with the new uniforms, and instead they’ve actually been amplified with the addition of a waist stripe.

The white jersey has a narrower red stripe and fatter yellow stripes between two narrow strips of dark blue. In comparison, the blue jersey has a thicker red stripe, narrower yellow stripes, and no exterior stripes. Here’s a screenshot from the video showing these differences:

I might be a little OCD about this kind of thing, but that lack of symmetry continues to bug me. Same goes for the socks; on the away uniform, the striping on the socks doesn’t match the rest of the uniform, using red exterior stripes as opposed to blue.

Some other things that are noteworthy about the uniforms this season: the Kelly Cup Champions patch is located on the back of the jersey below the waist stripe. This isn’t where I would have chosen to place the patch personally, but with advertising on minor league jerseys, there weren’t many other options. Additionally, in place of a traditional primary logo on the right shoulder, there is a 15th Anniversary patch instead.

In general, I have mixed feelings about the new look. I definitely dislike the lack of cohesion between the two uniforms. That being said (again), I do think the color scheme update is fantastic – I like the direction they’re going by leaving the primarily black and yellow color scheme behind and moving in the direction of blue, red and yellow. This is especially interesting considering the news that the Eagles will become the AHL Affiliates for the Avalanche next year.

What do you think, BR?

  1. I’m entirely sure the yellow on the logo and the yellow on the neck/stripes are two different shades. The former being a lighter shade, the latter being a more golden shade. Good catch y’all. Equally as annoying as the lack of symmetry.
