Prospect Weekly: Kaut Gets Rewarded

Mikko Rantanen isn’t the only player in the Avalanche organization worthy of October honors as Cale Makar was named Hockey East Player of the Month.

Makar celebrated by adding a goal as seen below and assist in a 5-1 win over New Hampshire to bring his totals up to 13 points in seven games, good for a tie for second in NCAA scoring. He has taken his game to another level this season and the only question is when not if he will make an impact for the Avalanche.

Weekly Brandon Saigeon update. He’s still scoring (nifty) goals. He’s still stuck in the OHL.

Over in the WHL Nick Henry is heating up. He is currently leading a downtrodden Regina Pats squad with 24 points including eight goals in 17 games and also has a seven game points streak going. In his latest outing, Henry scored two goals, the first of which seen below, and also added the overtime winner to beat Saskatoon 6-5 and he was also named first star of the game. It is still very likely Henry will get moved to a contender at the holiday trade deadline but he’s doing damage for Regina while he’s there.

Moving on to the pro side, the Eagles enjoyed a great bounce back weekend at home beating division rival Tucson twice for the sweep. Friday night the story was Ty Lewis as he scored a goal and an assist in a 3-2 win and was named second star of the game. On the goal seen below Lewis rifles a shot from the circles and was really causing havoc the entire night when he got upgraded to AJ Greer‘s place on the top line.

After getting the primary assist on the game winning goal Friday, on Saturday it was really time for Martin Kaut to shine. First he got the scoring started as seen below with this great drive to the net and pass to the well-travelled AJ Greer, who had another strong game with two points in his return.

Then in the third period Kaut added another clutch goal to help secure the win 5-1 win with the Eagles’ third goal of the contest. He uses his quick wrist shot to bury the puck as seen below. Kaut was named a much deserved first star of the game. It’s nice to see his hard work and good plays in all zones finally rewarded with some production on the scoreboard. Kaut now has five points on the season after his three point weekend.
