Once his KHL season was over Nikolai Kovalenko‘s sojourn back to the MHL was a success as he helped Loko in the MHL playoffs with nine points including three goals in 12 games. Loko began the finals with two consecutive victories on the road but dropped the next three and were on the verge of extinction down 2-0 late in Game 6. Loko rallied to tie the game and then Kovalenko worked his magic in overtime to feed the front of the net for the game winner as seen below.

Loko then defeated Avto 1-0 in Game 7 to capture their second consecutive MHL championship and another gold medal for Kovalenko.

Looking for a pair of victories on the road, the Colorado Eagles headed to Bakersfield and promptly laid an egg in Game 3. They got run over by the Condors and never recovered dropping the first of what essentially became a three game series 5-2. Sheldon Dries scored on a fluke bounce off the end boards on a Nicolas Meloche shot as seen below.

Game 4 resulted in the same 5-2 score and thus eliminated the Eagles from the postseason. This game was much closer and the Eagles were up 2-1 at one time on a pair of goals from Martin Kaut. The first was a slick move and individual effort right off a turnover in front of the net. Then the second seen below was a tip play off a feed from Shane Bowers with half a second left in the period. It was Bowers’ first professional point and ends the season on a high note for these two very important players as the future of the Avalanche.

Brandon Saigeon‘s season also wrapped-up as the Oshawa Generals were swept in four by the Ottawa 67s in the third round. He led the team in scoring with 16 points in 15 games to conclude his OHL career. Below are all of those points Saigeon plus his 92 from the regular season courtesy of Rudo3.
